New Years Eve in York 2011-2012

Looking for a last minute family-friendly hangout for New Year celebrations?  Martin Library is having a family night tonight at the library, on the corner of Market and Queen Streets downtown.  This event just started: at 6:45pm until 10:45pm tonight.  Just Dance, Tic Tac Toe and games for all ages.  After the festivities you can head to the square for live music until the rose drop and fireworks at midnight. 

If you are heading downtown let us know how you like the changes!  Do you go somewhere else to ring in the new year?  Please share!!  We are staying in this year- tired and sickness are reigning this house.

You can visit with Santa this weekend at Brown's Orchard! 
On Saturday November 26, 2011 from 10am-2pm visit Santa at Brown's Orchard in Emigsville in the Winter Wonderland.
On Sunday November 27, 2011 from 11am-4pm visit with Santa at Brown's Orchard in Loganville in the new Santa's Workshop.

Dinosaur Day at Brown's Orchard (North- Emigsville)

Visit Brown's Orchard (Emigsville store) Saturday, February 26th from 11AM-3PM for Dinosaur Day!
This will be a day full of dinosaur activities, sorytelling, fossil dig, dinosaur balloon animals, crafts and more!  Listen to Author Mike Sgrignoli and his son, Ethan read from their new book, Dinorific Poetry.  Brown's will also be serving Dino-themed lunch specials. 


Some activities can be done for a small fee, others are free.

Elmo's Birthday at Borders

Happy Birthday Elmo!

Silverlicious Celebration at Borders

Saturday February 12, 2011 at 2PM Borders is having a Silverlicious Celebration to commemorate the new book featuring Pinkalicious.  Kids can enjoy games, crafts, giveaways and a Pinkalicious parade!
This special event is for Pinkalicious fans and fans-to-be ages 4-8.

York Builders Association Home Show

Thursday February 3, 2011-Sunday February 6, 2011 is the York Builders Association Home Show at the York Expo Center (York Fairgrounds). 
Children are free with an adult, adults are $6 ($1 off with a donation.)
Kids at a builders show?  Sure!  They have a few activities specifically for children including the Lego competition and face painting.

Thursday February 3, 2011
5PM-8PM- Lay-A-Brick
Kids and adults can learn brick-laying with students from York County School of Technology Masonry Academy and the York Adams Co Masonry Association aiding children.  There is a $1 per brick donation for the York Builders Association Community Service and Scholarship Fund.

Saturday February 5, 2011
10:30AM-1:30PM- Kids can visit the Home Depot workshop and try one of a few different projects that can be taken home.  They will also receive a certificate and orange apron.  Kids must be accompanied by an adult and it's limited to the first 100 kids. 
12PM-8PM- Lay-A-Brick

1PM-4PM- Lego Home Building Competition
The Lego competition is hosted by Lexington Builders.  Children ages 5-12 can compete (in two age groups) to build Lego masterpieces.  Children in the competition will receive a t-shirt and goodie bag.  Registration for both age groups is at 1PM.  Space is limited to the first 25 children.  2PM is the start of the 9 & Under competition.  3PM is the start of the 10-12 competition.  Kids will have 45 minutes to build their homes.  4PM is the awards ceremony.  (I noticed the registration times are listed differently on the site.  One page says both age groups are to register at 1PM, another says that the 10-12 group is to register at 2PM.  You can confirm the correct time by contacting Cathy Warner at the York Builders Office at 717-767-2444 x16 or Cathy@YorkBuilders.com).

Borders Family Game Night

On Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 6PM families (recommended for children ages 6 and up) can join Borders for Family Game Night.  Try out games including Split Decision, Billionaire, Rage, Word on the Street, and more.

18th Annual Fishing Show and Flea Market

Clear your calendars for Saturday, January 22 from 8AM-4PM and Sunday, January 23, 2011 from 9AM-3PM.  The 18th Annual Fishing Show and Flea Market will be held at the Monaghan Twp. Fire Department, 245 West Siddonsburg Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019. 

This is an affordable family event with food (chicken corn soup from the fire hall- I've heard you can't find better) hourly door prizes and hundreds of boating and fishing vendors (new and used items for sale).  Parents, bring along your antiques for a FREE appraisal!  There is also a raffle drawing at the end of the event (you do not need to be there to win).  Last year prizes included a canoe and fishing gear.  Free seminars will be held all day both days. 

What about the kids?  They get to experience the popular Trout Pond (for kids under 12) where they can learn to fish- all supplies provided!  They can keep or release their catches.

This event benefits the fire company.  Cost is $3 per person.

Brown's Story Time (Emigsville)

On Tuesday, January 11, 2011 from 10AM-11AM Brown's North (Emigsville) is having story and craft time for kids in the Greenhouse. Since it's a weekday this would be for kids under 5.
The story will be The Mitten and the cost is $5 per child.

DreamWrights 8th Annual Indoor Winter Carnival

DreamWrights is having their 8th annual Indoor Winter Carnival on Saturday, January 8, 2011 from 10AM-5PM and Sunday, January 9, 2011from 1PM-5PM. 
There will be games, crafts, prizes, food and costumed characters will be visiting the carnival all day, both days.  There will also be a constume parade at 2:30PM each day. 


Admission: $1 OR Free if you wear a costume or bring a flier (fliers may come home with some school children).  If you are one of the first 50 people each day you can also get in free. 
Game tickets are $.25 and most games are 3-4 tickets.

MARSHMALLOW HIKE AT ROCKY RIDGE PARK

On Tuesday, December 28 at the Hidden Laurel Picnic Area from 9:30–11:30am & 1–3pm

and Thursday, December 30 (same location) from 1–3pm you can take a holiday hike through the woods to search for gifts from Mother Nature.  After the walk there will be hot chocolate and a warm fire available!   
 
It's free but call 717-428-1961 to register for the walk.
 
What a great way to get outdoors and burn off some extra energy!!

Philadelphia Eagles Running Backs Visit The York Galleria Mall

On December 4, 2010 from 2-4pm you can bring your little football fans to see Eagles Running Backs LeSean McCoy and Eldra Buckley at the York Galleria Mall.  They will be signing autographs and the cost is $30 for McCoy and $10 for Buckley.  (Always free to look!!)

Santa will be at the York Galleria Mall in East York from now until December 24, 2010!  Children can visit Santa from 10am-9pm Monday-Saturday and Noon-5pm on Sundays (break time varies).  Photo package prices range from $20-45.
