A Birthday Party for Dr. Seuss at Martin Library

It's time to celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss' birthday this Saturday, March 2, from 10-11am at Martin Library in York.  There will be stories, snacks and even a visit from the Cat in the Hat! 
If you live closer to the Arthur Hufnagel Public Library in Glen Rock you can visit from 9:30-11:30 for Dr. Seuss and Donuts.  There will be as many Dr. Seuss books as you and the kids can read!   
Both of these York Libraries events are free and no registration is required. 

Play Space Kick-Off at Martin Library

Join Martin Library on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 1:30-3:30pm for their Play Space Kick-Off, where they will have toys available to play with for the first time, information for adult visitors from local agencies, entertainment and stories.  This event will be held in the Children's Library at Martin Library.

Winter Beach Party at Martin Library

Teens in York can kick their winter blues by joining the Winter Beach Party at Martin Library on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 1-3pm.  They are celebrating summer in winter with activities and snacks and all teenagers are invited!  The Winter Beach Party will be held in the Family Place at Martin Library.

Live Music and Dance for Families at Martin Library

The quiet room at Martin Library will not be so quiet on Saturday, January 12, 2012 from 11am-12pm and 1-2pm when the Susquehanna Folk Music Society- Kolo Club performs live music and dances in colorful costumes- an activity for families with children of all ages.  It appears that you need to register to attend this event so call quickly, just in case!

The Lego Club at the Dillsburg Area Public Library

The Dillsburg Area Public Library has a Lego club the first Thursday of every month from 6-7pm.  The first club meeting will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2012.  This activity is for elementary school-aged children and Legos will be provided.  Finished projects will be displayed at the library.

Born to Read Story Time at Martin Library

Toddlers age 12-23 months and their adult are invited to Born to Read Story Time at Martin Library in York on Monday, May 14, 2012 from 9:30-10am.  Drop in for stories, songs, games and finger play; no registration necessary.

Seussational Celebrational at the Red Lion Recreational Center

On Friday March 2 from 6-8 pm kids of all ages are invited to the Red Lion Recreational Center, directly behind the Kaltreider-Benfer Library for a Seussational Celebrational filled with stories, food, crafts, games and more. 

New Years Eve in York 2011-2012

Looking for a last minute family-friendly hangout for New Year celebrations?  Martin Library is having a family night tonight at the library, on the corner of Market and Queen Streets downtown.  This event just started: at 6:45pm until 10:45pm tonight.  Just Dance, Tic Tac Toe and games for all ages.  After the festivities you can head to the square for live music until the rose drop and fireworks at midnight.

Get Outdoors (GO) York: Passport to Adventure

Get Outdoors (GO) York has partnered with York County Libraries and others for a summer program called the Passport to Adventure that encourages reading and physical activity. 

From June 1, 2011 until September 5, 2011 families with children of every age (birth to 18 years) can participate in two different events: the reading program, One World, Many Stories and the physical Go Explore Your World, with opportunities to win prizes along the way. 

For this adventurous Summer activity your child(ren) will obtain a passport from your local York County library with everything you need to get started.  In your passport you will find directions to every "country" (park) with hints to get to the location and country facts, registration prizes, dates for upcoming events both related to the Passport to Adventure program and for other York County Park and Library programs, info on letterboxing, reading suggestions and much more.  With every checkpoint (see the passport for details on the amount of checkpoints for each entry) your children can increase their chance to win a grand prize, for up to 5 chances.   
For the reading portion of the program you can log your minutes at any York County Library location or on the website.  Children can earn more prizes from this, plus entries for even more prizes! 

In addition to this fun event you can get great recipes from the Get Outdoors York website, based on the countries your family will be exploring through the program including Ratatouille (France) and Buttermilk Soup with Apples (Belgium).  Yum!

Puppet Theatre Inside Out

On June 30, 2011 from 10am-11:30am Martin Library is host to Steve Abrams, master puppeteer.  With his puppets he will tell a few classic stories and demonstrate how the puppets work.  This is sure to be an entertaining event, recommended for children ages 6 and older. 


You must register to attend this program and there are still openings.  This event will also be at other York County Library locations over the next few days. 

Preschool Story Time & Crafts at the Arthur Hufnagel Library

Every Thursday in May from 11am-12pm the Arthur Hufnagel Library in Glen Rock has Preschool Story Time and Crafts for kids ages 3-5 in the Glen Rock Children's Room.

Monday Evening Story Time at the Dover Community Library

Monday Evening Story Time at the Dover Area Community Library is for families with children of all ages.  Join Miss Colleen from 7PM-8PM on Monday, February 21, 2011 while she (and other presenters) share their favorite stories.  


Registration is not needed and it's free!  Call 717-292-6814 for questions.  This is usually a weekly event.

York County Libraries Present SplashFest Saturday July 10, 2010 at Codorus State Park

From 10am-2pm York County Libraries will be celebrating SplashFest at Codorus State Park.  This is a rain or shine event.  This FREE event will be held in the band shell and will include professional storytelling by Beth Rebert at 10:30am, children's performer Jim Rule at 12:30 and other awesome-looking performances.  In addition to the performers there will be free make & take crafts and an appearance by storybook character Lyle Lyle Crocodile.  There will be food vendors at the event but outside food is permitted.

It looks like it will be a fun and educational time for all ages, especially since it will be held at the beautiful Codorus State Park- if older children (10 and up) get bored there is so much to explore! 




I went to the library website (you can click on the post title to go there) and saw some other events that are going on through York County Libraries and saw something about Creepy Crawly Worm Races.  It didn't say when and where those were taking place (It definitely didn't mention it in the SplashFest announcement) but I must find out!  I have a 5 year old daughter who LOVES creepy crawly things and she would love this!!

Has anyone ever been to this?  Saturday is my son's 9th birthday so it will be up to him whether we go or not but I'm hoping he'll be interested in at least checking it out.  If he doesn't like it we can always simply enjoy one of our favorite big parks.
